I thought it would be nice if you got to know mine and Clayton’s love story from the beginning. All of this is the reason I believe we fought so hard for our marriage and continue to fight for it.
It goes back to that first job doing hair. A couple weeks after I had started, Clayton walked in for a haircut with the dreaded free haircut coupon! He was a young new teacher with no money and I was a young new hairstylist that had learned real quick that free coupon usually ment no tip (he did tip $2) and they weren’t coming back. The problem was when he set down in my chair I knew he was going to be my husband. It was an out of this world thing but I knew! I was so sure I called my mom that night and told her I met my husband today but the problem is I probably won’t see him again. He bearly said 5 words to me so I was pretty sure he wasn’t coming back and it definitely wasn’t going to be because I had given him the most amazing haircut. ( We joke about that all the time because it was not good!) I was learning and I thought he had hard hair to cut, but by my surprise he started making an appointment every two weeks with ME! Slowly he started talking and his haircut became really good!
It took him 6 months to ask me out! Six months after that he asked me to marry him, and 6 months after that We Said I Do. It was a whirlwind but it didn’t stop there. We got married in July and I got pregnant in August. One month after getting married we got pregnant with our Lexi baby. She was the best surprise of our life. I’m so thankful God surprised us with her because later we would go on to struggle with pregnacy.
Lexi was almost 4 when we got pregnant with baby #2 and that would be my very first true heart break that I had ever experenced. I truely thought nothing would break my heart as much as this did. Clayton would have to make decisions he never dreamed of making because I couldn’t say a word. We had gone in for a normal doctors appointment when suddenly it was no longer normal. Durning the ultrasound we would find out that our baby no longer had a heartbeat. The Dr looked up at the clock logged the time and begain to talk and my soul was no longer in the room. It was like I was floating above it. I could hear her talking and Clayton answering. She went on to tell him I was having a missed miscarriage and she would need to book me for a D&C in the morning or we could wait it out and be in the emergancy room because it was going to be bad. I heard him say “What do you have available we won’t cause her anymore pain.” I knew then why I married him, he took care of me when I was no longer in the room! A few months later we would get pregnant again with fraternal twins but loose one very early in the pregnancy but would be blessed to be able to hold on to one! Our beautiful son Dex. Dex completed our family.
We have been defying the odds since the day we got married. You see, on our wedding day a bet was put on us to only make it 6 months! It’s been 22 years since that. Has it been easy? Absolutely not! What I do know for sure is we have made it to this point because of this amazing man in our life fighting for us! His name is Jesus!!! The Great news is that he loves you as much as he loves us! You just have to ask him into your life! This is not a promise life will be easy but He will walk through it with you, that I can promise!
Romans 8: 31-32 “So, what does all this mean? If God has determined to stand with us, tell me, who then could ever stand against us? For God has proved his love by giving us his greatest treasure, the gift of his son. And since God freely offered him up as the sacrifice for us all, he certainly won’t withhold from us anything else he has to give. “
